2 important custody factors to consider

On Behalf of | Oct 3, 2022 | Child Custody |

Making sure that you have the child custody plan that’s going to meet your child’s needs is critical. The best way to do this is for you and your ex to work as a team to decide the terms.

As you’re going through this, there are many points that you should consider, but two of them can set the stage for the entire parenting relationship. As you go through these, be sure to remain calm and act in a mature manner.

Set a parenting team standard

Being able to be a true parenting team can help the situation a lot. The children can benefit because they’ll know that they have the support of both parents. They’ll also see that they can’t play one parent against the other because both parents communicate regularly. It will also help the adults because you’ll know that not everything has to be a contentious situation.

Remain willing to compromise

Another important point to focus on is being willing to compromise. Both parents have to do this so that neither always has to give in to the other. Always do what’s best for the children. This could mean letting them go with your ex for your weekend so they can see out-of-town family members who are visiting or changing pick-up and drop-off times to accommodate a new work schedule.

The parenting plan should be set based on what your children need now. It’s possible to modify the arrangement if their needs change as they mature. Being able to work with your ex can help to make the situation much easier.
